Preparing Ahead of Time
If you are packing yourself to save time and cost here are a few more tips that can help. If possible clear the nearest room to the front door for boxes. In that room split the boxes into four separate groups, fragile, light, medium and heavy. Alternatively do this in each room of the house or unit. Leave all normal walkway areas to allow us to choose items needed to pack the truck eg: hallways and doors. This allows free access to furniture and then heavy boxes as that is the order for the two main items in packing the truck. The lighter loose items will be packed on top of these in the truck. If possible research the access areas and reserve any point that will help us with time and you with money. Eg: Parking for the truck, lift access and keys, complete access to double doors etc
Packing Heavy Items
- Use a small box, for example the Tea Chest box full of books will not have enough strength
- Mark the box “heavy” and separate the boxes from fragile boxes
Packing Fragile Items
- Wrap the items loosely by using paper or bubble wrap
- Place crunched paper between items when packing in the box as this will help to create an air cushion.
- Leave a space of approximately 3cm from the top of the box before closing to create air cushion protection.
- Close box using tape and mark in large capitol letters along the tape FRAGILE.
- A good is to set all fragile boxes into the one area.
